SentrySafe SFW123DSB
The first one up on our list is the SentrySafe SFW. SentrySafe is one of the top brands for gun safes and given their reputation for quality, and it is no surprise they are the first ones to make our list.
The SFW safe can be ordered in a variety of sizes to suit your personal needs but does not have an option long enough for hunting or tactical rifles.
This safe is at an excellent mid-range price point, but its long list of features makes it a fantastic choice for those wanting to balance a reasonable price point without skimping on quality.
The SFW is waterproof, fireproof for up to an hour at 1700°F, pry-resistant, and can withstand a drop of up to 15 feet and remain closed. SentrySafe also offers a replacement in the event your safe is ever damaged by fire or water for added peace of mind.
The safe itself is made of steel and opened via a combination lock, though a secondary key to over-ride the combination lock is also provided. It should be noted that SentrySafe has specifically mentioned that this is explicitly an over-ride option and should not be used in place of the combination lock.
In terms of fireproof safes, the SentrySafe is relatively light at around 86lbs, so while we do recommend having a second person to help you lift it, you will not need to hire a company to move the safe for you. However, the chances are that if you can lift it, so can a determined thief, so it would be a good idea to bolt it down if possible.
Steelwater Heavy Duty Long Gun Safe
The Steelwater Long Gun Safe is an excellent option for those seeking fireproof storage for a variety of firearms.
With its variety of removable shelves in addition to the built-in pockets on the interior of the door, you can safely store your handguns, hunting or tactical rifles, ammo, magazines, and sights.
LED lights makes it easy to spot whatever you are looking for, and the upholstered interior will keep your valuables and firearms from being scuffed or scratched.
This safe has 12 gauge steel construction and is fireproof, EMP-proof, and is constructed to maximize pry, punch, or drill attacks. The lock itself is electronic and opened with a customized code, but also has a double-sided bypass lock so the safe can be opened with a key if necessary.
This much storage does have a cost, though, and that price is the hefty weight of 453lbs. This does mean it’s nigh on impossible for someone to carry your safe off, but also means that you will likely need to hire someone to move it for you.
The other thing that should be taken into consideration as well is that while the Steelwater is fire rated, there are conflicting reports of the length of time is it rated for.
Online, it will show a 60-minute rating at 1875°F, but the manual has it rated for 30 minutes at a temperature of 1250°F; overall, not a huge concern, but something to be aware of.
Mesa Safe Company MBF6032E Rifle Gun Safe
The Mesa Safe Company, like SentrySafe, is well known for building quality safes.
The MBF model is perfect for those willing to pay top dollar for an extremely secure safe.
Like it’s counterparts, the MBF is made with steel, but unlike many other safes, the steel in the body of the MBF is 11/2 inches thick, and the door itself it 1 inch thick. Meaning it is tough to pry open and giving superior protection without adding extra bulk.
This does mean, however, you will need movers since the safe itself weighs around 650lbs. The safe itself is upholstered and has removable shelves, and if the shelves are not utilized you can comfortably fit around 10-12 rifles inside, which is pretty darn impressive.
MBF claims it can fit up to 20 rifles, but even with the ample space, we don’t think this is logistically possible without risking some scuffs or scratches.
The fire rating is excellent, offering 60 minutes of fire protection at temperatures up to 1750°F and can survive a two-story fall without the door opening.
It is opened via a battery-operated electronic lock, but it should be noted that while newer models do come with a master key, that older models do not.
As a bonus, the most recent models of the MBF also offers an internal power strip in case you need to charge any of your gear up to guarantee it will be ready to go when you are.
