The Best Biometric Gun Safe – Fingerprint Gun Safes Reviewed

One of the most unique things in the entire world rests on your finger – it’s your fingerprint. Now if that’s not the best pass code for a gun safe, I don’t know what is.

We’ve reviewed gun safes and handgun safes before, but not biometric gun safes specifically.

Our experts found the best biometric gun safes on the market today and compiled them into this post for you below.

Stack-On PC-650-B Portable Locking Case with Biometric Lock

This biometric solution from Stack-On will keep your weapon safe, and allow portability at the same time. It’s small, but not too small for a full size pistol, and even at only 7 pounds, it feels quite secure.

The key lock is very basic. It’s hard to imagine a scenario where someone would try to pick the lock (unless you have teen-agers in the house who aren’t safety minded) but it’s similar in complexity to the lock on a desk drawer. The fingerprint scanner will store 28 profiles, and the box is TSA compliant. It doesn’t allow a solution for silencing the scanner beep, which might frustrate some users.

Artemis Biometric Gun Safe / Handgun Safe

This lock box can store up to 200 fingerprints in its database. The key entry is quite secure as a backup system. This box is larger and heavier than the Stack-On, but still small enough for most desk drawers. It also features four pre-drilled mounting holes, but no extra brackets or hardware. The interior furnishing is quite nice, and removable if you find yourself needing some extra room.

There is a tamper alarm on the safe, which will sound after five unsuccessful attempts to open. The safe features a battery alarm, which is always helpful, and according to the manufacturer, batteries will last about a year before they need to be changed.

Viking Security Safe VS-20BLX Mini Biometric Safe Fingerprint Safe

At first glance, it looks like just another fingerprint wall-safe with a keypad and LED displaying the battery life. On closer inspection, Viking Security has packed as much steel as they could fit into this thing while keeping the price approachable for most people.

All of the walls are 5mm thick, almost a quarter of an inch. The entire construction uses laser-cuts and seamless welds, which not only look sharp, but cut down on a thief’s ability to break in and take your stuff. Bolted to a floor or a wall, this safe will guard your possessions very well, so long as you remember to change the factory override code. There are famous stories about safes broken because some factory combination was never changed.

A visible battery indicator is another plus, the safe is super heavy, and the interior is carpet coated. Did I mention that it comes with an optical sensor? You should have a much higher success rate with your fingerprint scan, especially in those tense situations. It’s hard to beat this one, especially on price, for a wall-sized safe.

Stack-On Biometric Personal Safe with Adjustable Shelf

A pretty standard wall-safe style of gun safe with biometric entry. The fingerprint scanner is somewhat limited, like the smaller Stack-On, at 20 individual fingerprint codes. The design is pry-resistant, and you can gain entry by punch-in code, fingerprint, or key.

The shell is sleek and attractive. The inside is foam padded and includes a removable shelf. Two locking bolts are motor driven, adding to the pry resistance. It doesn’t come with any alarm or other indication that the batteries might be dead, so it’s a good idea to test it from time to time, and change those batteries at regular intervals. The key lock is hidden behind a plastic plate, which is a nice addition. Overall, this is a good safe for a good price.

BARSKA Quick Access Biometric Gun Safe

Sometimes you want something a little larger. If your home defense plan involves a shotgun or tactical rifle, and you need to keep it locked up, a wall safe isn’t going to work. This cabinet style safe from Barksa might be the solution for you. It’s a four gun safe, but depending on how your weapon is equipped, it might only fit two or three.

At 66 pounds, it’s heavy for such a small safe, and this is one area where heavier is better. The biometric system will store up to 120 fingerprints. It comes with two back-up keys, and includes the option to silence the beeping feedback from the scanner. Aside from the interior being a little too cozy for most AR-15’s to play nice with other rifles (and not fitting with a 30 round mag loaded), this is a good emergency rifle locker, and great for a person who only has a couple pistols and a rifle or two, or wants a dedicated locker for an emergency rifle.
