Trijicon MRO Review
The Trijicon Miniature Rifle Optic, more commonly known as the MRO, is a miniature reflex sight that has become one of the top mini reflex sights on the market.
When doing any long-range shooting, you will find that the higher quality your optic is, the more accurate you will be as well.
It comes as no surprise that a poor optic can ruin an otherwise enjoyable day on the hunt, and If you are in a combat situation, a less than stellar optic could render you ineffective.
When looking for an excellent long-range optic, you will want something easy to use on the fly, accurate, durable, and consistent.
Keeping those factors in mind, let’s take a closer look at the Trijicon MRO and see if this may be the perfect sight for you.
The Build
Like other Trijicon scopes, the MRO was built to last.
Constructed with forged 7075 aircraft-grade aluminum housing and fully sealed, it is rugged and able to withstand the elements.
For additional protection, the body was also given a hard, anodized coating to guarantee maximum durability.
The MRO is built to be able to function in almost any elements or situations, so it is waterproof up to 30 meters or 100 feet.
Additionally, there are also tubes filled with dry nitrogen to make the MRO fog proof as well. The MRO is made for use on a rifle, shotgun, or carbine with a Picatinny mount.
The MRO can be ordered with either no mount, a mid-height base, or a co-witness base, depending on which suits your head position best, and the MRO Patrol comes with a lightweight quick-release mount.
The MRO also has windage and elevation knobs that sit flush against the body, no caps to lose here, and are easy to adjust with either a coin or the rim of one of your rounds.
When adjusting, there is an audible click, but it is quieter than expected. The dials also turn smoothly, which is excellent, but it is very easy to over-adjust and move more clicks than desired, so you may be better suited to get it zeroed before you leave and let it stay there if possible.
The Optics and Sight
The optics and sight are where the MRO really sings.
When you bring up raise it to your field of view, the red dot is easily spotted.
The lens itself has zero reflection, so it is easy to keep your eye focus on your target without being distracted by glare.
The lack of reflection is even better because it also means that no matter if you are using an MRO in combat, or and MRO to hunt, that your target will not be alerted to your presence by a reflective glare from your sight.
This is in large part because of the quality of glass used for the optics. The lenses give superb clarity and are also multi-coated so that they allow the maximum amount of light possible to reach your eye.
This is especially helpful when shooting on a non-traditional position, and you will find that no matter the position, the red dot is easy to find, making target acquisition speedy and accurate.
Since the MRO is a reflexive sight, the front angle lens is angled so that the red dot is easily seen in your sight.
This is an area where it is easy to determine the quality and functionality of a reflex sight rapidly, and the MRO absolutely nailed it.
The dot is easy to spot in both high and low-level light, and once zeroed will hold that zero no matter how much you test it. The MRO is a 1x sight, so there is no need to worry about parallax, and there is infinite eye relief.
Aiming to be as user-friendly as possible, the MRO also has eight brightness settings that are adjusted via a dial.
The brightness levels start at n and N, then move up with the brightest illumination being 6, with the “off” switches being one click below n or in between 2 and 3.
Understanding that both right and left-handed shooters will be using the MRO, Trijicon also made sure the brightness dial was ambidextrous.
The brightness dial can also easily be spotted with one eye without needing to remove your cheek weld, so making sure the brightness setting is correct is a breeze.
Other Perks
The MRO has a ton of amazing features, but its ability to pair with other sights is phenomenal.
The MRO will co-witness with ease; all you need is the proper co-witness mount. Additionally, both the n and N brightness settings pair perfectly for night vision, making a slightly larger red dot and is easily visible without being blinding.
The illumination is powered by an easy to find CR2032 lithium battery. Still, since the battery can last up to 50,000 hours at brightness setting 3, you won’t need to worry about having a large amount of batteries on hand.
The battery compartment is also found inside of the rheostat on top of the MRO
Conclusion
Overall, the Trijicon MRO is a fantastic reflexive sight.
While it may be more expensive than others on the market, the well-thought-out design, durability, and reliability make it well worth the splurge.
If you zero it in and leave in on your rifle, you will find that no matter how much abuse it gets, it will stay on zero and sight right in every single time.
Adding in the fact that the MRO is lightweight and low-profile also means that not only is it effective in a combat situation or for hunting, but it is also an excellent option for a home defense rifle.
The sight will help you zero in on an intruder in seconds, but also will not take up excess space in a gun safe.
The only minor complaint we had was that the edges of the red dot weren’t as crisp as we generally prefer, but since this didn’t negatively impact our accuracy or our ability to aim, it is almost not worth noting.
