Review: Vortex Optics Strikefire 2 Red Dot Sight
One of the best red dot sights out right now in 2016 for the money is the Vortex Optics Strikefire. This RDS combines awesome value (under $200 on Amazon right now with free shipping) with outstanding performance and battery life. I have bought several of these red dot sights to put on my AR15s and haven’t been disappointed yet.
In fact, I want to say that the Vortex Optics Strikefire is probably the best red dot sight for AR15 for your money this year. Let me tell you some more about this awesome red dot sight.
Awesome Battery Life
Let’s start with one of the most important features of the Vortex Strikefire 2 red dot – reliability. In this case, the battery life has a direct impact on how reliable it is. Per Vortex, you can run this thing for 300 hours at full brightness. It has several brightness settings so you can stretch that out quite a bit if you choose a lower brightness setting.
Good Size, Fit and Finish
The Vortex Optics Strikefire isn’t annoyingly large like some other red dot sights I’ve used. It’s built very well and can probably take a beating worse than I could give it (that’s a LOT).
It comes with a cantilever mount that puts the dot above the front sight. I find this very useful and practical. It will fit any flat top AR available.
Great Brightness and Quick Target Aquisition
I’ve found the brightness of the Vortex Strikefire to be excellent compared to other red dot sights, even those more expensive. While most red dot sights are not made for precision shooting, this one in particular is excellent and holds zero very well even after 500+ rounds of .223 went through it. You get a very clear field of view with this red dot and the dot itself is very bright and positive for quick aiming.
One thing to note is that we didn’t experience any ghosting with this red dot sight. It was very clear and the brightness settings really helped for more long range shooting situations (in our case, 250 yards).
