Trijicon Accupower 1-4 Review
Trijicon is a name that has become synonymous with quality since the company started back in 1981.
Since their debut, they have continuously put out cutting edge any-light aiming systems that are so effective that they have become the official Rifle Combat Optic of the United States Marine Core, and are widely used by law enforcement officers, government officials, and recreational users.
While Trijicon does create a wide variety of scopes, sights, and optics, the Accupower 1-4×24 has become one of their preferred riflescopes.
Yet, while Trijicon is known for quality, the higher price point of the Accupoint was a deterrent for a lot of people, so Trijicon introduced the AccuPower The Accupower is meant to have the same performance and quality as its predecessor, but at a lower price point thanks to its use of a battery over the tritium/fiber optics for the illuminated reticles.
So, let’s take a look at the Accupower 1-4×24 and see if the price reflects the quality while also looking at what it has to offer.
The Build
The Accupower 1-4×24 is constructed entirely with 6061-T6 aircraft grade aluminum, giving it rugged strength and longevity.
The other advantage of this aluminum is that durable enough to be used in all weather conditions without being worse for the wear.
The Accupower also has an anodized anti-corrosion hard coat to keep it in good shape, even in rough conditions.
The overall weight comes in around 16.2 ounces, which is heavier than many people may prefer, but also not as heavy as some of the other riflescopes available either and is also quite a bit lighter than the larger Accupower1-8x.
The adjustment wheels are covered with tight-fitting turret caps, that are as functional as they are aesthetically pleasing.
When turning the adjustment wheels or the magnification ring, you will find both are stiff and secure, giving no slop whatsoever.
Reticles and Lenses
The reticles on the Accupower 1-4x is one of the key differences between the Accupower and its predecessor, the AccuPoint.
Unlike the Accupoint, the Accupower 1-4x’s illuminating reticle is powered by a CR2032 lithium battery. The battery life is around 31 hours at maximum power and will have a longer life-span of 3 weeks or longer if kept at around half-power at 5x or 6x.
The reticles themselves are on the small side and are quite slim so that they don’t obscure the target or your field of view.
Some people will appreciate having a smaller reticle, but for those who prefer a larger or thicker reticle, the AccuPower 1-4x may not be the right choice for you.
The Accupower also offers 11 brightness settings that you can move through using a brightness adjustment dial.
Aiming to make the Accupower as user-friendly as possible, Trijicon also made sure that in between each brightness setting is an “off” feature so that you don’t have to scroll all the way up or down to turn the illumination off.
The illumination is mainly meant for low-light or nighttime situations, so if you want to see the illumination during daylight hours, you will need to use one of the higher numbers on the brightness setting.
The Accupower 1-4x also has a variety of reticle choices, allowing you to select an MOA reticle, MIL-square reticle, Duplex crosshair, and finally, a Segmented circle crosshair.
Additionally, each of those choices also has the option for a red or green LED illumination, ensuring that there is an option that will suit your personal preferences.
The Accupower has Second Focal Plane, or SFP, reticles which can be seen as either a pro or a con based on the user.
Since it is an SFP reticle, the size and appearance of the reticle is constant, no matter the magnification. In low-light situations, a higher magnification will give you a better aiming point.
Reticles adjustments are made using a diopter, which makes tweaking the reticles simple and straightforward.
The Sight
The sight on the AccuPOwer 1-4x is excellent and provides a clear, crisp picture up to 45 minutes past sunset.
A large part of this is thanks to the multi-coated lenses, which are meant to provide excellent light-gathering capabilities without having any distortion.
The field of view is large compared to the majority of its competitors on the market as well.
On a 1x magnification, you can see 32.6 feet at 100 yards. If you use the 2x setting, a 12-inch bullseye will perfectly fit in the circle on the sight, which means that you should have easy target acquisition and can reliably and repeatedly hit your target.
The magnification ring feels stiff and tight, making audible clicks when turned, but when used, turns with surprising ease.
The AccuPower 1-4x also has a throw switch so that you can shift from CQB to long-range quickly.
The AccuPower lenses are also made to suit what Trijicon calls the Bindon Aiming Concept, also known as BAC or the “both eyes open” aiming concept.
This allows you to pinpoint your target, aim, and shoot with both eyes open, so you are also able to see what is happening in your periphery.
The BAC is a large part of the reason that Trijicon sights are used so widely in combat and close quarters shooting, and also why so many hunters enjoy it as well.
Conclusion
The AccuPower 1-4x has a lot of features that make it stand out from its other counterparts online.
Trijicon’s attention to detail is evident in its construction, and we can appreciate they are offering excellent quality at a more reasonable price point.
For the average individual, this sight will provide everything you need in terms of performance.
That being said, if you are someone who prefers having bigger dots or data lines on your reticle, this may not be the choice for you.
We have also found that while the illuminated reticle is bright at night, that during the day, there is almost no illumination, and you can only see the black reticle.
Comparatively speaking, that isn’t a huge issue, but it is something a potential buyer should be aware of.
